Magic Johnson was among the first to congratulate American runner Noah Lyles after he recently won an Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter run. Despite the Americans’ stiff reaction to the track and field runner, the Lakers legend continues to congratulate him.
In his recent post at X, the 1992 Olympics gold medalist salutes Lyles after his close win in the running event. He said that the whole of America is cheering for the 27-year-old athlete from Alexandria, Virginia.
“We’re all on the yacht cheering for Noah Lyles after winning the Men’s 100M race and remaining the fastest man in the world! It’s the first time in 20 years that the US brings home the gold in the Men’s 100! Wow – what an exciting race!!”
Noah Lyles remains the fastest runner in the world in the 100 and 200-meter running events. He also surpassed his personal record in the former by 9.79 seconds. The event was a close match, with him reaching the finish line almost simultaneously with Jamaica’s Kishine Thompson.
A thorough photo finish determined the USA’s representative as the winner by a minuscule five-thousandths of a second. His victory at the event was the first in the USA for twenty years. Meanwhile, Noah’s fellow countryman, Fred Kerley, finished in third place at the same event. He acquired the bronze medal as a result.
Recently, Lyles expressed his disappointment with the NBA’s players, who are considered “world champions” even though they’re limited to primarily American cities.
He argued that track and field players like him compete against everyone worldwide on an international stage. However, this insight of his caused a backlash from the public, hence their cold perception of the talented track and field athlete who had just won his first Olympic gold medal.
Magic Johnson is also expressing support for other fellow Americans in the Paris Olympics
Besides Noah Lyles, the three-time NBA Finals MVP congratulates other Team USA athletes for securing first place at the 2024 Olympics. Johnson recently commended Simone Biles and the USA women’s gymnastics team for capturing gold in the team competition.
He had also congratulated legendary swimmer Katie Ledecky for gaining a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle. She’s the sixth person to win four consecutive gold medals in the same event.
In his recent post at X, Johnson saluted these two women, Lyles and Ryan Crouser, for showing American dominance in the Olympics.
