Controversial Algerian boxer Imane Khelif found another ally in Mark Cuban as the Dallas Mavericks team owner reiterated Algeria’s laws on gender identity after former United States president Donald Trump lashed out at her during a campaign rally in Atlanta.
Trump, seeking a return to the White House, addressed his supporters in the Georgia state’s capital on Saturday and implicitly insisted that Khelif is transgender, saying, “This young girl from Italy, a champion boxer, she got hit so hard, she didn’t know what the hell hit her. So the person that transitioned, he was a good male boxer, and she didn’t even go down. He hit her with two jabs. She said ‘I am out.’”
“She” referred to Angela Carini, the pugilist who controversially abandoned her match against Khelif after just 46 seconds.
The Anonymous News took a video clip of Donald Trump’s statement and posted it on their X account with the caption, “All they have is lies. If you have a daughter, imagine almost half of a country calling her a man. These people are horrible human beings, and anyone who votes for them is just as horrible. Imane Khelif never transitioned; she is a biological female.”
Cuban agreed by quoting the aforementioned tweet with the caption, “Even worse. She is from Algeria. In Algeria, it is illegal to be gay. The idea they would send a gay or trans Olympian is insane.”
Algerian rule Mark Cuban reiterated
In summary, Mark Cuban meant the Algerian laws on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Algeria, being a Muslim nation, prohibits its citizens from taking a gender identity different from their sexual orientation, that is, men must still be men and women must be women no matter what.
Algeria also disallows its citizens from undergoing a sex change, which only means Khelif, despite exhibiting a stature different from the average female, is really a woman.
Imane Khelif was revealed to have a genetic disorder called “differences of sex development” in which she developed XY chromosomes and a testosterone level you usually see in a male despite being a cisgender female.
Algerian boxer Mark Cuban defended now assured of medal
The statement of Donald Trump, which The Anonymous News and Mark Cuban lashed out, came hours after Imane Khelif returned to action in the quarterfinals of the women’s 66-kilogram boxing division at the Paris North Arena in Villepinte, France.
As anticipated by almost everyone, Khelif defeated Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori via unanimous decision to clinch a semifinal spot.
In the process, Khelif is now assured of a medal, and she has a chance to upgrade that medal on Tuesday night against Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng at the Roland Garros Stadium in downtown Paris.
