Mark Pope Is Frustrated With Kentucky After Georgia Defeat
Mark Pope, head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, was clearly not happy with his team after they recently lost to the Georgia Bulldogs. On Tuesday, the Kentucky Wildcats lost the game with a final score 82-69, after Lamont Butler put up a total of 20 points, grabbing four rebounds and assisting three times, while Brandon Garrison chalked up 13 points, with five boards and a pair of helpers.
Meanwhile, on Georgia’s end, Asa Newell led the team on the scoreboard with 17 points in total, with seven rebounds and a pair of helpers, while Blue Cain managed to score 15 points, with eight boards and two assists.
“Yeah, they had 15 today. And it’s back-to-back games where we gave up 15 offensive rebounds. And that’s, man, that’s a real bell we’ve got to ring. It’s unacceptable for us, and it’s … a sign of distraction.” Mark Pope said to reporters after the game.
Currently, the Kentucky Wildcats are ranked tenth in the Southeastern table with a 1-1 conference score, and 12-3 overall. The Wildcats were on a two-game winning streak before they recently lost to the Georgia Bulldogs. Next up, the Kentucky Wildcats will play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Mark Pope’s Nice Behavior With Referees Highlighted
Apart from Mark Pope’s impressive coaching skills, fans of the Kentucky Wildcats college basketball team have noticed one another thing about the coach – that he is being too nice with the referees. Even when the referees call out something which seems unfair, Pope has never reacted or responded in a rude manner, unlike other coaches.
The coach can simply be seen doing other things like motivating his players or just staring across. When assistant coach Cody Fueger was asked about the same, he interestingly pointed out that Pope has never been like this all the time. It seems that it took quite a bit of time and experience before Pope became the lovable coach he is now.
Mark Pope has also played before becoming a college basketball coach, and that too for a number of impressive teams like the Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks, the New York Knicks, and the Denver Nuggets. Before coming to Kentucky as a head coach, Pope was the head coach at BYU and before that at Utah Valley.
Prior to these stints, Pope served as an assistant coach for Georgia, Wake Forest, and then BYU. During his college days, Pope played for the Washington Huskies and then for Kentucky where he led the team to the championship.
