Max Christie is getting so much love lately from Los Angeles Lakers fans, players, and coaches as the 21-year-old shooting guard has found his niche in the Lakers squad as the team records three straight victories.
Christie has played in 27 games so far this season and was featured more prominently in the line-up in the last two weeks.
He believes he made individual progress in the past years he spent in Hollywood, including crossing from the main team to the South Bay in G-League.
“It feels good and it’s pretty cool kind of just to see the progression and the growth in terms of just me over the last three years,” he told media after their win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
“To be honest, I think I’ve slowly gotten a little bit better, been put in more tense situations, more important situation. And I think these are good experiences for me. . .I think it’s cool for me just to kind of reflect on the growth that I’ve had. And then I want to keep that going.”
Christie still don’t produce much when it comes to scoring but he has become an integral part of the Lakers’ defense. He had two steals in the past two games while playing an average of 20 minutes.
Max Christie thanks Lebron James for having young players’ back
Timing and opportunity is everything for many players trying to make it to the NBA.
Christie is savoring all that and he is especially glad that he has veteran teammates who trust young players like him.
“He sees a lot of things, and so obviously being on the back of the line, him and A.D., see everything in front of us,” Christie said talking about Lebron James.
“Me and Gabe [Vincent] and Cam [Reddish] on the perimeter, we got everybody behind us. For them to communicate to us from the backline, I think it just revs up everybody’s energy too. When you hear your teammates communicating with you, they have your back. Just gives you all the confidence you need to press up into the ball, give as much effort as you can.”
