The injury bug continues to haunt the Memphis Grizzlies as GG Jackson II recently sustained a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot while playing basketball, and he had undergone surgery to fix it.
As a result, the Memphis Grizzlies confirmed that the 19-year-old forward will be re-evaluated in approximately three months, which will cause him to miss a chunk of the 2024-25 campaign.
GG Jackson II is coming off a successful debut campaign, as he made it to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2023-24. He ended up playing more than he should due to the injuries the team had to deal with throughout the season, especially with Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Derrick Rose, and Brandon Clarke, among others, missing significant time.
As one of the team’s top players, Jackson averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 35.7 percent from three-point land in 48 regular season games (18 starts).
Before the foot injury, GG Jackson II dominated in the NBA 2K25 Summer League, averaging 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in six games to help them win the championship.
What’s next for the Memphis Grizzlies?
Getting everyone healthy is the main priority for the Memphis Grizzlies next season since they arguably have the collective talent to contend for a playoff spot.
Ja Morant has teased fans of his imminent comeback, while Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr. are also working their way back.
With GG Jackson II, there will be more minutes for Santi Aldama, Jake LaRavia, Luke Kennard, and Vince Williams Jr.
