Zach Edey got his Memphis Grizzlies career to a hot start on Monday night. The Grizzlies lost their first game of the Summer League to the Utah Jazz, 97-95, but this did little to overshadow Edey’s eye-opening debut for his new team.
So much so, that even Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant had to take notice.
Memphis Grizzlies News: Ja Morant Reacts to Zach Edey’s Summer League Debut
Edey finished Monday’s loss with a solid 14-point, 15-rebound double-double. The former Purdue star went 7-of-12 from the field and added four blocks and an assist in 34 minutes of action.
This game went down the wire, and it was actually Edey’s tip-in at the buzzer that sent this contest into overtime. In the end, however, it was the Jazz that prevailed behind Keyonte George’s 30-point explosion.
Despite suffering defeat in his Grizzlies debut, Edey’s performance was enough to grab the attention of Memphis’ cornerstone superstar, Ja Morant:
“ayeeeeeee zach 😂💪🏾” Morant wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
ayeeeeeee zach 😂💪🏾
— Ja Morant (@JaMorant) July 9, 2024
It was a simple reaction from Morant, but you just know that he’s excited to start playing alongside the Grizzlies’ new rookie. Edey isn’t going to be a superstar in his first season as a pro, but he’s fully expected to impact Memphis in a major way this coming season.
Based on his reaction, it is clear that Morant is very much looking forward to this prospect.
