The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly sending veteran forward, Ziaire Williams, and the Dallas Mavericks 2030 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Mamadi Diakite per Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ziaire Williams was placed on the trading block earlier this week and was expected to be shipped to Brooklyn in the following days.
Why This Trade Makes Sense For the Grizzlies
The former 2021 10th overall pick had served 3 years in Memphis prior to this trade with career averages of 7.5ppg and 2.6rpg. Despite suffering injuries throughout his tenure, he showed signs of improvement in his offensive game this past year.
Memphis doesn’t have many openings to allow potential to continue growing as they are once again entering the ‘contenders’ conversation. It would have been pointless to keep the young forward on a roster where he would see no playing time while entering next year as a potential Free-Agent.
What the Memphis Grizzlies Gets in Return
Mamadi Diakite was a piece of the blockbuster trade that sent Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. He hasn’t seen a substantial amount of playing time since the 2021-22 season where he suited up for the Oklahoma City Thunder for 13 games.
