Former Miami Heat center Chris Bosh returned to the basketball court on Sunday eight years after he retired from active competition. He suited up one more time to join the farewell game of his former Heat teammate Goran Dragic in Slovenia. NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic were also there to join the game.
After the game, Bosh recalled his time in the Heat with Dragic.
“He’s a fantastic player and a fantastic person,” said Bosh. “More importantly, he brought so much toughness and spirit to the locker room, and Gogi’s one of those guys you can count on all the time to be consistent.”
Bosh also reflected on Dragic retiring without ever winning an NBA championship.
“It’s hard, it’s really really hard. I think moments like this when you look around, and look on each bench, each person that comes out to support him, the fans that come out to support him. You can have a ring and still be a bad person, you know, and still have people not come out to support you,” Bosh said.
The former member of the “Heat Big Three” with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade also talked about Dragic being a point guard and himself being a big man working naturally for the team, adding that he enjoyed every minute playing with him on the court.
Dragic also played for the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets prior to joining Miami. He eventually was traded to the Toronto Raptors and played short stints with the Brooklyn Nets and the Chicago Bulls before ending his career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023.
Ex-Miami Heat player explains reason for not joining the Euroleague
Chris Bosh retired from professional basketball in 2016 to address the blood clot in his lungs. When he recovered from his condition, he never returned to play for any team or any league.
In an interview with Cesare Milanti posted on X on Saturday, the 11-time NBA All-Star revealed that he rejected multiple offers from various Euroleague teams, including those in Spain and France.
“I actually had offers from Europe. But it was time. I wasn’t in a position where I wanted to up and move my family. I took it as a sign and moved on,” Bosh said.
Bosh’s illustrious NBA career was cut short by his medical condition, leaving many fans upset at his untimely exit. That is why many were excited to see the two-time NBA champion play once again in his former Heat teammate Goran Dragic’s farewell game.
