The Miami Heat haven’t made the big splash we usually see from this team year after year. They are, nonetheless, still making the necessary moves to ensure that they are able to field a formidable roster this coming season.
One of the items that they can now cross off their checklist is the contract of veteran big man Kevin Love. This is after it was reported on Sunday night that the five-time All-Star is nearing an extension with the team.
Miami Heat News: Kevin Love on Brink of New Deal
It was NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic who broke the news on Sunday night:
“Free agent F/C Kevin Love is finalizing a two-year, $8 million-plus deal to return to the Miami Heat, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium,” Shams reported on X, formerly Twitter.
This comes after Love previously opted out of the final year of his current contract — one that would have guaranteed $4 million in salaries in 2024-25.
Instead, the 35-year-old has secured a more long-term deal to remain in Soth Beach through 2026. Based on Shams’ report, it appears that the money will still be the same for Love, except that he’s now been able to gain more stability with his new deal — for the next couple of years, at least.
Last term, in his first full season with the Heat, Love averaged 8.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 16.8 minutes off the bench. He played just 55 games in another injury-plagued campaign.
Both Love and the Heat are hoping that the one-time NBA champion big man is able to establish himself as an even bigger contributor for Miami’s title push in 2024-25.
