NBA legend Michael Jordan is again trending on social media, as he is involved in a photo with swimming legend Katie Ledecky. As the Paris Olympics raged, the swimmer bagged one more gold medal in her career and became US history’s most decorated female gold medalist.
After Ledecky won first place, sports business analyst Darren Rovell posted a photo of Michael Jordan carrying the young Katie Ledecky back in 2001. At that time, Jordan was at the end of his basketball career and had won two gold medals for the USA. Little did ‘His Airness’ know that the girl he’s carrying would have six more medals than him.
Katie’s uncle, Jonathan Ledecky, was once a minority shareholder for Lincoln Holdings in 2001. The corporation manages the Washington-based athletic teams at the NBA, WNBA, and NHL. Jon sold a portion of his shares to the corporation in the same year, where Jordan would also enter for the Washington Wizards.
The photo sent by Darren Rovell on X showed Michael carrying the young and cute Katie. Everyone knows Jordan was a true NBA legend then, so children like Katie would look up to His Airness. Jordan is even shown playing with Katie in another video that the Olympian shared years ago. She shared that she had met His Airness because her uncle gave her the perfect spot for a meeting.
Katie Ledecky is regarded as one of the most excellent female swimmers ever. Throughout her career, she had a combined 37 gold medals in the Olympics, the World Championships, and Pan-Pacific competitions. When Katie entered the 2012 London Olympics, she was the youngest American participant, being 15 years and 4 months old.
Michael Jordan might’ve influenced Ledecky to strive for a legendary swimming career
Ledecky’s recent success gained her spotlight once more. Her encounter with Jordan in the past led many people to think that MJ might’ve determined Katie’s successful swimming record. Overall, the fans have described the encounter between the two as mental.
Throughout his career, Michael Jordan won two Olympic gold medals, in 1984 and 1992. The Barcelona Dream Team, where he’s at, also influenced today’s men’s basketball team in Paris. Meanwhile, Katie has won back-to-back gold medals since 2012. She has also won silver and bronze medals at the current Olympics in different swimming events.
The Paris Olympics is not yet over, and Katie could still get more medals as the swimming event continues.
