Los Angeles Lakers star player LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for more than two decades and within that long period, James has achieved a long list of awards and accolades. With this considered, discussion of who is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of the NBA has always been mostly between Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and James. Former Lakers power forward Kwame Brown shared his insights on the topic—and it didn’t sound too favorable of LeBron James.
In one of his podcast’s recent episodes, Brown discussed the idea of LeBron James being the GOAT of basketball, or at least the NBA. According to him, the only reason that people consider “King” James the GOAT is because he has control over the media.
“LeBron is the GOAT because LeBron controls the media,” Brown said. “No NBA player thinks that LeBron is the GOAT. I don’t give a damn how much you slice it, how much you dice it. He has great numbers, whatever he has the best, whatever. No NBA player believes that with the heart of hearts.”
He also emphasized that media outlets only refer to him as the GOAT simply because they want to have a story to work on.
Brown added: “They know LeBron’s not the GOAT; it’s for clicks and views. The same reason why ESPN talks about him all the time, [the] same reason why any other station talks about him all the time.”
LeBron James on Retirement: Not “Until The Wheels Fall Off”
Lebron James is currently the oldest active NBA player and is turning 40 on December 30. Considering his age and how long he has been playing for the league, the question of retirement has been raised multiple times by now, and while James has not given any specific date or timeline for his retirement, he assured fans that he doesn’t plan to shoot hoops forever.
“I’ve been blessed by the Man above with some out-of-this-world ability from the beginning and I just took full advantage of that,” James said in one interview. “I wasn’t going to disrespect what He’s given me. I’m going to see how long I can do it. I won’t do it until the wheels fall off, I’ll tell you that.
He added: “I won’t do that, I won’t be one of those guys.”
LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for more than two decades now. He is currently in his 22nd season. He has played more than 16,00 regular-season games, has been a 2-time All-Star, and has been named the NBA Most Valuable Player four times, among many other awards and accolades.
