Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan is barely getting any media attention for his philanthropic efforts, while his son got all the news and reporting over an arrest he got into in the past several weeks. At least, this was the observation of one former NBA star and podcaster.
In one of his recent posts on X, former NBA star and now podcaster Etan Thomas got honest about how he feels about the media coverage difference between Michael Jordan and his son Marcus Jordan.
“I’m sure there will be some members of the media who will be offended but it’s true,” Thomas said. “One had wall-to-wall coverage while the other barely got a mention if at all.”
I’m sure there will be some members of the media who will be offended but it’s true. One had wall to wall coverage while the other barely got a mention if at all. But that’s not just specific to MJ, that’s indicative of how athletes are covered in general https://t.co/NS9AOKtHXb pic.twitter.com/lMwQkXUfe1

He was talking about Marcus’s arrest getting widely reported by major and smaller news outlets, while Michael Jordan and his donations barely got any traction. However, Thomas emphasized that he believes this is not exclusive to Jordan but more of an industry trend.
“But that’s not just specific to MJ, that’s indicative of how athletes are covered in general.”
Marcus Jordan, the son of NBA legend Michael Jordan, faced legal trouble earlier this year when he was arrested in Florida earlier this year. The charges against him included DUI, possession of cocaine, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred when Marcus’s Lamborghini SUV got stuck on railroad tracks, prompting police intervention. Officers reported signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, and a search revealed a small bag of cocaine in his possession.

A video of Marcus dropping Michael Jordan’s name surfaced, but the Bulls legend himself has remained silent throughout the heat of the issue.
Michael Jordan Continues in Philanthropy, Following Basketball Retirement
Michael Jordan continues to make a significant impact through his philanthropic efforts, with his most recent work focusing on healthcare and community support. In 2025, Jordan donated $10 million to establish two new Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinics in underserved areas of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Jordan has also actively supported education and social justice initiatives, pledging $100 million over 10 years to organizations committed to promoting racial equality and social justice. Additionally, he has contributed to Novant Health to fund clinics that provide comprehensive medical care, including mental health services, to communities with limited access to healthcare.

This commitment includes funding programs that address income inequality, educational disparities, and community development. The contributions of Michael Jordan have supported various nonprofit organizations, including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Black Voters Matter, demonstrating his dedication to creating lasting change.
