Michael Jordan’s documentary film, “The Last Dance,” was his own production, so it only makes perfect sense for it to paint him as the best there is. At least this is the sentiment that NBA defense legend Gary Payton expressed.
In one of the recent podcast appearances that he had, NBA legend Gary Payton talked about the issue of how he was portrayed in the Michael Jordan film documentary “The Last Dance.” According to Payto9n, he does not have any objection to how he was portrayed in the film as it was a production for Jordan, nto him.
“It was his production,” he said. “I wouldn’t even respect MJ if he would have said anything else. That’s his production. He post a giggle and laugh because I giggled and laughed too, because everybody know what was good, you know what I’m saying?”
“When I switched on him, a lot of things changed… but we are not going to say we would have won or whatever if I would have guarded him earlier, but it would have been a good matchup,” Payton added.
Gary Payton, often referred to as “The Glove,” is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history. He is the only point guard to have won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, which he received in the 1995-1996 season.

Payton’s defensive prowess earned him nine All-Defensive First-Team selections, tying him with legends like Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett, and Kobe Bryant. He also led the league in steals during the 1995-1996 season, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier defender.
Looking Back at “The Last Dance” Criticisms
“The Last Dance,” the documentary chronicling Michael Jordan‘s final season with the Chicago Bulls, has received both praise and criticism. One major point of contention is the portrayal of Jordan’s teammates and the narrative being heavily skewed in Jordan’s favor.

Critics argue that the documentary presents a one-sided view, focusing primarily on Jordan’s perspective and downplaying the contributions and experiences of other key players like Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman.

Additionally, there have been claims that certain events and details were either exaggerated or misrepresented. For example, Sam Smith, the author of “The Jordan Rules,” accused Jordan of lying about several incidents in the documentary, including the circumstances surrounding the team’s breakup and the infamous “Flu Game.”

Throughout his career, Michael Jordan received multiple accolades, including being a six-time NBA Champion, five-time MVP, and six-time Finals MVP.
