The Milwaukee Bucks are preparing for the 2024-25 NBA season with the hopes of advancing past the first round after two straight early exits. In order for that to happen, the team’s core of star players, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton, must remain healthy.
Last season, Giannis missed the entire first round series against the Indiana Pacers and Lillard was severely limited by an Achilles injury. While Middleton played the whole series, he was playing on two bad ankles.
Of course, the Bucks have the advantage of having spent an entire offseason and training camp with Doc Rivers, who was brought in mid-season last year after Adrian Griffin was fired. This continuity will hopefully make them more competitive in 2024-25.
Lillard, though, has some thoughts of how the NBA and himself can be more competitive beyond this season.
Milwaukee Bucks Point Guard Damian Lillard Wants the NBA to Add a 4-Point Line
According to Josue Pavon of Clutch Points, Lillard discussed a massive rule change with Charolette Hornets players in a recent video posted on social media. The eight-time All-Star, along with many other NBA players, would like to see the league add a four-point line.
“I’d probably add a 4-point line, for real,” Lamelo Ball said in the since deleted video. His Charolette teammate Seth Curry agreed before Lillard chimed in, “I’d add a 4-point line.”
It is not hard to see why the Bucks point guard, along with other NBA sharpshooters, would like to see a four-point line added. In recent seasons (thanks to Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry), the three-point shot has become a bigger part of the game. Now, even traditional centers and other big men are expected to be able to shoot well from beyond the arc.
What is more, many players are pulling up from longer distances with more and more frequence. Lillard himself is well-known for shooting from the half-court logo and making his shot.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Is a Prolific 3-Point Shooter
As fans may recall, Lillard has won the Three-Point Contest in each of the past two NBA All-Star Weekends. Despite not being in the best shape and dealing with some heavy off the court situations in his first season in Milwaukee, he also still made 35% of his three-point shots.
For his career, Lillard is a 37% three-point shooter and, as mentioned, makes many of those from well beyond the arc. Adding a four-point line would make him an even more dangerous player.
Of course, the NBA has made a change like this before when they added the three-point line for the 1979-80 season. It has been 25 years since that change. Why not add a four-point line? It would make games much more exciting, especially when a four-point shot could win a game as opposed to just tying it.
