The Milwaukee Bucks could be making at least one more trade before the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Bucks are shopping 24-year-old MarJon Beauchamp with the team looking to add a weapon on defense.
“Lastly, the Bucks have informed rival teams of Milwaukee’s early interest in trading MarJon Beauchamp, sources said. Beauchamp, a G League Ignite product, could help the Bucks acquire a defensive-minded wing.”
This was also noted recently by Spotrac contributor Keith Smith, who also said that the Bucks are keeping an option open for the potential of adding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
“Part of the Bucks interest in trading MarJon Beauchamp (as @JakeLFischer reported earlier) is to open a roster spot,” Smith wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Milwaukee has some interest in re-signing locker room favorite Thanasis Antetokounmpo, a league source told @spotrac.”
“Thanasis Antetokounmpo is expected to miss the season to rehab from a torn Achilles’ tendon, but his locker room presence is prized by the Bucks, and his brother Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Smith added in a follow-up post.
Fans react to Milwaukee Bucks-Thanasis Antetokounmpo rumors
Several fans, however, don’t seem to be in favor of the idea of adding Thanasis again.
“I don’t get it. They can’t make him an assistant coach or something?”
“Why can’t he just… you know… visit his brother and former teammates and rehab at the facility and sit behind the bench while not counting actively towards the roster?”
“Can’t he just hang out in the locker room and be on the bench without being on the roster??”
“can the bucks sign me as a replacement. im 5’5 and i am a good team player. i dont even have to touch the ball. i am good at staring at the rim”
“The bucks are really going to open a roster spot to sign Thanasis 🤣🤣 why can’t they just hire him as a coach or something. Dude is not an NBA player.”
The 32-year-old free agent suffered an Achilles injury last season which required surgery, so even if the Bucks get him again he won’t be able to contribute on the floor right away.
That’s apart from the fact that he had not produced meaningful numbers for the Bucks during his five-season stint with the squad.
That being said, it’s quite clear to everyone that Thanasis’ main role with the Bucks during his time in Milwaukee had more to do with keeping Giannis comfortable and less about what he can bring to the table on the court. During his stint with the Bucks, Thanasis averaged just 2.4 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists through 198 games (11 starts).
