Although the Milwaukee Bucks ended last season in a disappointing fashion, the campaign ahead may shape up in favor of the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team. According to The Ringer, though, their starting five is projected to be the most dominant in the NBA right now.
The Bucks are poised to surprise the NBA in the upcoming season, despite many analysts placing them lower in power rankings. With the return of superstars Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, the team is ready to reclaim its status as a contender. Last season was marred by injuries, which hindered their ability to establish chemistry. However, both players are now healthy, and their dynamic partnership promises to be explosive.
Lillard’s ability to stretch defenses with his shooting complements Giannis’s dominance inside, creating a formidable offensive duo. Their previous limited time together—only 42 games—showed promising results, with an impressive offensive rating of 125.1 during their shared minutes.
Additionally, Lillard has indicated that he’s prepared for his new role after facing personal challenges last season. His preseason performances suggest he’s ready to contribute significantly. With Khris Middleton also in the mix, the Bucks’ offense could become one of the league’s most potent, able to challenge any defensive setup.
The Bucks’ recent preseason success has fostered a positive atmosphere, adding to their momentum. If they can maintain health and consistency, they have the potential to disrupt expectations and make a deep playoff run. With their core intact and a renewed sense of purpose, Milwaukee is set to shock the league, proving that they are still a force to be reckoned with. Keep an eye on them as they aim to re-establish their championship aspirations this season.
The Ringer Projects Milwaukee Bucks’ Starting 5 as the NBA’s Most Dominant This Season
Having Antetokounmpo and Lillard lead Milwaukee’s starters is something the NBA should watch out for. According to The Ringer’s Michael Pina, the Bucks’ starting unit is predicted to be the most dominant this season.
With the Celtics down Kristaps Porzingis for a few months, the Nuggets without Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and pretty much every other serious candidate suffering through its own set of questions or transformations, Milwaukee’s starting lineup is lurking in the shadows as an absolute juggernaut.
Last season, 27 five-man units played at least 250 minutes. Among them, the Bucks ranked first and second in net rating. Now let’s zoom in just a bit and take a look at four-man units. There were 82 of them that logged 500 or more minutes last year. The one with the highest net rating? Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brook Lopez, and Khris Middleton. Milwaukee outscored opponents by a whopping 16.6 points per 100 possessions in the 677 minutes that quartet played together. Injuries to Middleton and Antetokounmpo, combined with the general chaos that followed Jon Horst’s catastrophic decision to replace Budenholzer with Adrian Griffin, ultimately did the Bucks in last season. But this data sample should inspire more optimism than Milwaukee is getting.
The Bucks are set to surprise the league with what could be the best starting five in the NBA, according to Pina. If Khris Middleton returns soon, the combination of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Middleton offers unmatched offensive dynamism.
Their previous performance together showcased an impressive net rating, and the addition of Gary Trent Jr. enhances their shooting capabilities. With a healthy roster, the Bucks could challenge the Boston Celtics for Eastern Conference supremacy, positioning themselves as serious title contenders this season.
