On Sunday, the Golden State Warriors concluded their first-round series against the Houston Rockets with a 103-89 Game 7 victory. Following their win, the Warriors will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. Their best-of-seven series will be the first time they’ll play against each other in the postseason.

The Timberwolves had to wait to see which team they would face in the second round. The Anthony Edwards-led team ended their first-round matchup (the Los Angeles Lakers) in just five games. After eliminating the Lakers, Edwards will face the Warriors in the second round.

In 2023, Edwards was interviewed about what he’s looking forward to in the campaign. According to the former Georgia star, he wants to return to the postseason. Last year, he achieved that and led Minnesota to its second conference finals appearance.

However, Edwards’ season ended after they lost to the Western Conference finals against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. He added that he wants to face the Warriors in the playoffs.

Edwards had one specific reason why he wanted to meet the Warriors in the playoffs.

“Definitely going back in the playoffs,” Edwards said when asked what he’s looking forward to most of this season. “And going further in the playoffs to go versus — I want to play the Warriors. I want to get to the Warriors. Wherever they at, I want to get to them.

“Because Draymond [Green] talks so much trash. That’s pretty much the only reason.

Edwards got his wish as they will play Game 1 of the second round on Tuesday.

The Wolves star is coming off a first-round series against LeBron James. Through five games, the 6-foot-4 guard averaged 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists.

After the Warriors’ victory over the Rockets, TNT’s “Inside the NBA” gave their take on the next series ahead. Former NBA star Charles Barkley picked the Minnesota Timberwolves to win the best-of-seven series in the second round, while his co-hosts Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith believe in the Warriors.

“I’m going to take Minnesota. I think Minnesota is playing really, really well. Ant is a hell of a player. His confidence is sky-high. I think the interesting matchup is how often they’re going to play small. Because if they put Rudy out there, they’re going to attack him in the pick-and-roll. … Minnesota is going to have to go small a lot if they’re going to beat this team,” Barkley said.
