Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards recently received backlash for his comments about the older generation of NBA players for lacking skill besides Michael Jordan, putting him on the radar of Rasheed Wallace.
In the latest episode of The Sheed & Tyler Show, the one-time NBA champion let his feelings about Edwards known, saying that he still has a long way to go to be considered one of the league’s elite, particularly because of his defense.
“I like Ant-Man too, but here’s my thing: at this point in his career, in my opinion, he’s not better than Derrick McKey,” Wallace said. “He’s not better than Grant Hill. He’s not better than Scottie Pippen. You know what I’m saying?”
“I’m talking both sides of the ball now. You know Derrick McKey was a defender. He is not a defender. He’s improving, but he’s not that defender yet,” he added.
Edwards is coming off his best season to date in 2023-24, averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals on 46.1 percent shooting from the field in 79 regular season games. He led the Minnesota Timberwolves to their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 2004.
Anthony Edwards is only getting better for the Minnesota Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards established himself as a household name in the NBA with his superb play last season. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the 23-year-old swingman has the sixth-best odds to win the NBA MVP award at +1,200.
With their core pretty much intact, fans have higher expectations for Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves next season, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they’ll outdo themselves last term.
