On Thursday, Karl-Anthony Towns played against the Minnesota Timberwolves for the first time since he was traded to the New York Knicks. In his return, he received a standing ovation and a video tribute from the team that drafted him. Towns gave back to his former team by beating them, 133-107, and dropping 32 points and 20 rebounds.
While the crowd had a memorable night seeing KAT play up close for the first time this year, the same can be said about his former teammates. After the game, All-Star guard Anthony Edwards talked to reporters about his thoughts on Towns’ historic night against his former team.
“Hell yeah,” Edwards said on being happy for Towns in New York. “I told him when we was down 30. Like, I can’t show my happiness for you, but hell yeah, I was f***ing super happy for him. And I mean, that’s everything you dream of. You get traded, come back, and f***ing beat your team by 30. You know what I mean? It’s everything you dream of. I can’t be mad right now. I’m happy for him, sure. I’m mad that we lost, but in the inside, I’m super happy for him. That’s my dawg”.

While the Knicks star had a great game on Thursday, Edwards didn’t have the best outing for his team. The All-Star guard finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds and seven assists. The Minnesota Timberwolves star shot 43.8% from the field but wasn’t enought to lead the team to a win.
Edwards criticized the way the Minnesota Timberwolves played against the Knicks
The Minnesota Timberwolves struggled offensively on Thursday, as they only had 89 attempts from the field to the Knicks’ 97. Beyond the 3-point arc, the Wolves tried to be competitive and had 42 attempts to New York’s 45.
However, that wasn’t enough to give them the win as they struggled to match New York’s offensive tenacity. After the game, Edwards criticized their lack of offensive execution in the game.
“We’re not an offensive team. We’re a defensive team,” Edwards said. “I don’t think there’s going to be too much change… If you watch the game, there’s nothing for me to do when I get downhill. Everybody want me to get downhill. I know that’s my strength. I get to the rim, lay the ball up, dunk the ball. But I can’t do nothing if there’s no lanes. It’s not open.”
“We don’t have no identity. We know I’mma shoot a bunch of shots. We know (Julius Randle) gonna shoot a bunch of shots. That’s all we know,” Edwards said. “We don’t really know anything else.”
