The Minnesota Timberwolves knew coming into Game 4 that they will be playing with their backs against the wall. They lost the first three games of the Western Conference Finals despite pushing the Mavs to the limit during all three games.
With this in mind, Wolves fans hoped that they would be able to extend the game by getting the win against a Mavs squad that’s been firing on all cylinders as of late. They did manage to extend the series as the Timberwolves finally held on to their lead to win, 105-100.
Anthony Edwards plays a large part in the win, and he made a huge promise to return to Minnesota for Game 6. However, he’s not the only standout performer during the series as Karl-Anthony Towns put up a solid performance to extend the series and mount an improbable comeback.
Karl-Anthony Towns shine as the Minnesota Timberwolves win Game 4, extend series
The first three games of the series saw the Kentucky alum not asserting his will onto the game as much as the fans would have liked. He more than made up for it with his performance against the Mavericks this game.
He finished the game with 25 points, five rebounds, and one assist. While his rebounding numbers aren’t as impressive as his Game 3 performance, the leap in his FG% (69.2%) was more than enough to bring Minnesota’s first W in the series.
Towns gave a straightforward answer on what helped him play better against the Mavericks, as reported by AP Sports’ Schuyler Dixon:
“Being aggressive,” Towns said. “Ain’t no time to have any doubts in your mind, especially at this time, it’s Game 4, down 3-0. Ain’t no time to have any doubts.”
In response to Towns’ solid performance, Edwards tallied a near triple-double of 29 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Rudy Gobert took over the interior with 13 points, 10 boards, one assist, and one block.
The win eases only a bit of the pressure the Minnesota Timberwolves are facing. They cannot drop a single game if they want to win it all. With Towns now seemingly back in action, they now have a good chance of forcing a Game 7 against Luka Doncic’s Mavs.
