With Team USA’s preparation for the 2024 Olympics in full swing, the men’s basketball roster composed of various NBA stars are finally getting the chance to bond together as a cohesive unit. For Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, though, there is one guy standing out as the funniest of the group.
Edwards, the 22-year-old rising star from the Timberwolves, is part of the star-studded 2024 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team. While the roster boasts seasoned veterans like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry, Edwards is aware of his place as a relatively newcomer to the national team.
During a recent practice session, Edwards boldly proclaimed himself as the number one option on the team, drawing some skepticism. However, those who know him well say this is simply Edwards being his authentic self – confident, charismatic, and unafraid to speak his mind.
Edwards first attended an NBA game as a child to see Durant play, and has long admired the veteran superstar. Now, he’s eager to take the court alongside Durant and the other Olympic greats, despite acknowledging their superior pedigree.
Head coach Steve Kerr has hinted that minutes and roles may be fluid on this star-studded squad. Edwards, who led the 2023 World Cup team in scoring and minutes, is ready to embrace whatever his particular contribution may be, as long as it helps the U.S. capture gold in Paris.
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Stands By Claim That Kawhi Leonard is Funniest Team USA Player
At this point in time, Team USA is spending a lot of time practicing under the guidance of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. For Edwards, though, one particular member of the team is standing out for him, as seen in a tweet by Arash Markazi on X.
Anthony Edwards also said the funniest player on Team USA is Kawhi Leonard. He really is a funny guy. 😂 https://t.co/7921RBA1Ti

Leonard, despite missing the playoffs due to a knee injury, has remained optimistic about his NBA journey. He acknowledged injuries as part of his path and is determined to keep playing. The Clippers were not overly concerned about his participation in Team USA, as his knee had improved in recent weeks, allowing him to take part.
With Leonard and Edwards on the squad, Team USA is projected to make it far in the competition. In the event they win the gold, the former will have more reason to be funny in the months to come.
