Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns has been much-maligned for most of the 2024 Western Conference finals series against the Dallas Mavericks. Over the first three games of the series, Towns averaged just 15.0 points on a horrible 27.8 percent shooting from the field and an even uglier 13.6 percent shooting from behind the arc. That led to a torrent of criticism and ridicule directed at the former Kentucky Wildcats star.
Karl-Anthony Towns delivered for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charles Barkley loved it
But with the Timberwolves’ season on the line on Tuesday, Towns broke out of his shooting slump and delivered a memorable performance that was so good NBA legend Charles Barkley was left without a choice but to give KAT his flowers.
“Also, listen, and Shaq talks about it. Karl-Anthony Towns played ball tonight. We can talk about this and this and this, Dallas had the lead going. But Karl-Anthony Towns, we’ve been waiting on him. Shaq’s been saying it, ‘your stars have to play like stars’. He’s been awful in the series, plain and simple. He saved the Timberwolves season tonight. So just give him his flowers, he deserves it. We criticize him, he doesn’t play well, we gotta give him his flowers.”

In Game 4, Towns muscled out 25 points on 9/13 shooting from the field, including four 3-pointers on five attempts from deep to help Minnesota eke out a 105-100 win on the road.
The hope for the Towns and the Timberwolves is that he will be able to sustain that form in Game 5 this coming Thursday in Minnesota.
