It was just recently that Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert was awarded his fourth career Defensive Player of the Year title. A lot of folks have now come out to say that he does not deserve the award after what we’ve seen from him in the postseason, especially now that the Wolves are down 3-0 in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.
Minnesota Timberwolves News: Kendrick Perkins Regrets Voting for Rudy Gobert for DPOY
If you ask former NBA champ turned ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, he is completely embarrassed by the fact that he was one of the media personalities who voted for Gobert as this year’s DPOY. So much so, that Big Perk wants to forfeit his right to vote moving forward.
“I have the biggest regret in my media career, and I’m retiring from voting for individual awards because I have done a disservice in using my voting right,” Perkins said. “Me voting this season for Rudy Gobert is an embarrassment for me for Defensive Player of the Year… He has tarnished the Defensive Player of the Year award. He has. He’s not respected by his peers.”

That’s brutal.
The silver lining for Gobert is that it’s not over yet. He still has time to prove the naysayers wrong by showcasing his defensive prowess against Luka Doncic and the Mavs.
Minnesota will be fighting to keep their season alive on Tuesday in Game 4, and it goes without saying that Gobert will play a pivotal role in the same.
