The Minnesota Timberwolves surprised everyone when the Anthony Edwards-led team reached the Western Conference Finals after years of disappointing campaigns. Turns out, Rob Dillingham, their latest rookie, was a fan of what they achieved during the 2023-24 season.
The previous season was a big one for Minnesota as the team sought to build on its recent playoff appearances. Led by the core of Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert, the Timberwolves got off to a strong start, winning seven straight games in November last year.

Throughout the early and middle parts of the season, the Timberwolves maintained a quality winning record, entering the All-Star break as the surprise leaders of the Western Conference. They matched their previous season’s win total by the end of February and then went on to achieve their first 50-win season since 2004.
The Timberwolves clinched their third consecutive playoff berth before the regular season ended and then proceeded to secure their first playoff series win since 2004, sweeping Kevin Durant’s Phoenix Suns in the opening round. They followed that up by defeating the defending champion Denver Nuggets in a hard-fought seven-game series, advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years.
Despite their impressive run, the Timberwolves were ultimately eliminated in 5 games by the Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks. Nevertheless, it was a season of significant progress for the franchise, laying the foundation for future playoff success.
Minnesota Timberwolves Rookie Rob Dillingham Raves About Team’s Talent After Surprising 2023-24 Campaign

Just recently, the Timberwolves traded a pair of first round picks for the right to select Kentucky’s Rob Dillingham in the 2024 Draft. In turn, the rookie shared his thoughts of the team in a video shared by NBA TV on X.
“They just need one more piece. I feel like they were honestly good this year and they could’ve won it this year. Adding me is just a plus to the team.” 🔥@TaylorRooks with Rob Dillingham and how he fits right in with the Timberwolves pic.twitter.com/wOze6aLtO6

For his part, Minnesota’s latest rookie averaged 15.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the lone season he played for Kentucky. Dillingham is also projected to become a solid backcourt addition to the team, especially with his knack for playmaking and scoring.

The addition of Dillingham to Minnesota’s roster is a welcome development, given how high his ceiling in the league. With the rookie playing alongside the Timberwolves core of Edwards, Towns, Gobert, and Mike Conley, sky is certainly the limit for the Kentucky star.
