Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves stunned the NBA community when they announced during the first day of the 2024-2025 season that they have reached a new agreement to the tune of three-year, $110 million contract extension for the player.

The two parties claim it was a win-win move for them but of course, some people are just too hard to please, including Orlando Magic legend and Los Angeles Lakers star Dwight Howard.
Howard, who hasn’t been in the league since 2002, found it ridiculous that the Wolves re-signed Gobert for such amount. He even propped up himself, suggesting that the team could have signed him for just $10 million a season.
“He got three more years? Minnesota, you could have gave me $10 mill for the rest of the season,” he said during an appearance at the show of Gilbert Arenas who is also known for making ridiculous takes.

Gobert is not that popular among his colleagues. He is a subject of ridicule for many, mostly for not being able to create shots and going missing during the playoffs.
Last season, he was voted the most overrated player in the league according to a survey done among NBA players.
Minnesota Timberwolves should have released Rudy Gobert instead of KAT
Another thing the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner found strange was the Wolves’ decision to let Karl Anthony Towns go instead of Gobert.

KAT, who was drafted by the Wolves as a first overall pick in 2015, is now part of the New York Knicks. He spent 10 seasons in Minneapolis and was there in team’s ups and downs.
For Howard, that should be enough for the Timberwolves to keep him longer on their side.
“I don’t have nothing against Rudy, but like, come on, you gave up KAT? KAT has been there for nine years. They don’t get to where they get to without KAT. Then you just throw him away? And he going to a fire team?”
