We have our first major trade in the 2024 NBA Draft. This comes in the form of the Minnesota Timberwolves trading for the No. 8 overall pick with the San Antonio Spurs to get their hands on Kentucky standout Rob Dillingham.
The Wolves were intent on getting their man, and they’ve given up quite a few assets to get a deal done.
Minnesota Timberwolves Trade for Rob Dillingham
It was NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski who first broke the news on Wednesday night:
Minnesota has traded for the eighth pick and Rob Dillingham, source tells ESPN.

Woj then provided more context, revealing that the Wolves have sent a future first-round pick to San Antonio as well as a future pick swap in exchange for Dillingham:
The Timberwolves are trading a 2031 unprotected first and a protected 2030 pick swap to the Spurs for Dillingham, source tells ESPN. https://t.co/jTMUQlhsrh

For their part, the Spurs already selected Connecticut guard Stephon Castle as the No. 4 overall pick, which is why they could afford to part ways with the No. 8 pick. They have decided to send it to Minnesota in exchange for even more future draft capital.
Dillingham, who averaged 15.2 points per game as a freshman for the Wildcats last season, is one of the most electric guards in his class. The Wolves will now pair him with superstar shooting guard Anthony Edwards in what is expected to be a formidable and very exciting backcourt pairing.
Minnesota failed to reach the NBA Finals this past season, and they are clearly looking to make up for it in 2024-25. The Wolves are not messing around.
