Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins believes that Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have a chance at being title contenders in the 2024-25 NBA season. On Friday’s episode of “NBA Countdown,” Perkins discussed the Warriors’ hot start and hyped them up as legitimate threats to win the championship.
At the moment of this writing, the Warriors are the top-seeded team in the Western Conference with an 11-3 record. Over the summer, Golden State lost a member of their Big 3, Klay Thompson. However, Thompson’s departure didn’t stop the team from what they’ve done this season.
“The Warriors been poppin’ in the West like Kendrick Lamar’s new album,” Perkins said. “When it comes down to what they’ve been doing, I’ve been watching this team since preseason and they have a certain type of look, they have a certain type of synergy about themselves. They’re defending at a high level with Draymond Green anchoring their defense. They’re number one in perimeter defense.”
“I believe the Warriors are legit title contenders.”

The organization’s former general manager, Bob Myers, shares the same sentiment as the former NBA player.
“I think they’re gonna win it every year,” Myers said. “I didn’t [believe in them], going into the season. I feel very confident… they have certainly looked like it.”
“I’m actually surprised the West hasn’t looked as strong as it has. In ’22, I remember when I was there… [Mike Dunleavy] said, ‘This is our chance cause there’s no dominant team.’ I feel like there’s no dominant team.”
According to Myers, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the only team he believes may threaten Stephen Curry and the Warriors.
Stephen Curry is focused on winning his fifth NBA championship
Throughout his career, Stephen Curry has collected trophies, solidifying his legacy in the league. With four championships under his belt, Curry isn’t done competing and wants to enter a different category.
In an interview with NBC Sports on Tuesday, the two-time MVP talked about his mentality of being greedy in winning his fifth championship.
“Honestly, it’s the only thing I’m really playing for at this point,” Curry said. “It’s the only thing that matters in the sense of accomplishment.”
Being a five-time champion would put Curry on a list of players who won the Larry O’Brien with five championships. He’ll join the likes of Magic Johnson, Tim Duncan and the late Kobe Bryant.
“And then, obviously, in the historical realm of basketball, there is another level. You talk about five-time champions and beyond that. It’s a good place to start from, but I definitely want to get greedy.”
