No one is more polarizing than Bronny James among NBA Draft fans.
While he’s making himself eligible for the 2024 class, many fans will argue that he hasn’t shown enough potential that would turn him into a player with a long and successful NBA career. Even though he impressed scouts in the Draft Combine, doubters still believe he should have played at least one more season of Division I ball at USC.
However, everyone knows that Bronny getting into the NBA is more of an inevitability rather than a question. There’s one obvious reason why teams are seriously interested in acquiring a player who has the physical tools but don’t have the college CV to back his stock up.
One analyst who’s followed LeBron James throughout his career made it strikingly clear why.
Brian Windhorst believes LeBron James could get his son selected in the 2024 NBA Draft
Brian Windhorst has been following LeBron James for much of his career, eventually building up his reputation as a sports media figure in the process. Since he has a good picture of what’s going on in LeBron’s camp, he addressed the one thing that would get his son drafted in the NBA.
Per The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
“His dad could get him drafted,” Windhorst said. “Bottom line, if LeBron took a certain stance, his dad could get him drafted. What Bronny is saying is, ‘I ain’t going that way.'”
Windhorst’s statements on Get Up is a clear indication on where the league stands with Bronny: teams will move heaven and earth to draft him if his father gives the word.
It’s understandable why they’re willing to do so. LeBron has proven that he’s still a star-caliber player at 39, and teams would want to have the leverage on getting him in the offseason.
However, it seems like Bronny wants to go another direction:
“My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and, of course, get to the NBA,” Bronny told reporters. “Which is what everyone’s end goal is here. I’ve never thought about playing with my dad, but of course he’s brought it up a couple of times.”
It’s admirable for him to want to become his own man. However, he cannot deny that plenty of the attention he’s getting is due to his surname.
He will have to impress scouts beyond the Combine if he wants to carve out a career for himself in the NBA.
