After being on the air for such a long time, Inside the NBA is about to end its run once the upcoming season ends. This prompted former All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to share his opinion on who should be blamed for the show’s conclusion.
In the face of uncertainty surrounding broadcasting rights, TNT is determined to reinvent its flagship show, Inside the NBA. The network remains optimistic about retaining its long-standing relationship with the league, but is also preparing for potential changes.
Just recent, TNT said they will be exploring ways to leverage the talent and chemistry of its iconic on-air team, including Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson. The network’s executives are “whiteboarding multiple ways” to maintain the show’s unique blend of analysis, humor, and engaging content, even if they lose their rights.
One idea that has been discussed is transforming the show into a more comprehensive sports discussion program, potentially titled “Inside Sports.” This shift would allow the network to continue showcasing the personalities and insights that have made the show a beloved institution among basketball fans.
The upcoming 2024-25 season could potentially be the last for the beloved show in its current format, as the network faces the prospect of parting ways with the broadcast rights. However, TNT is committed to reimagining the show, ensuring that its core audience remains captivated and entertained, regardless of the future landscape of professional basketball coverage.
Carmelo Anthony Shares His Thoughts On Who’s To Blame for Inside the NBA Drama
Amidst all of the drama surrounding the show, Anthony dropped a take on who should be blamed for its impending conclusion. In an episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, a Wave Sports + Entertainment Original, the former New York Knicks star.
MELO: “Inside the NBA is associated with the NBA. …That group of guys, that culture they created is part it of the NBA. We look forward to it even though we hate that shit sometimes as a player. As a player you never want to hear what they have to say about you but you want to hear the funny shit they got to say about everybody else. When you accept that is when you become cool with Inside the NBA…I would be upset too if I was Charles Barkley though… I would be upset about that. We built this shit.
We created what’s inside the NBA. We created the vibes and what everybody goes to. They’re not going to ESPN for this right here. They’re part of the brand. So how can you x us out of what’s happening, even if the contract is up, let’s sit and talk about how we move this somewhere else.
But I honestly blame the higher ups for that man. The execs and all of that. We can’t be here with you all of this time building the property and we can’t be told what’s actually happening here like we don’t have a shot.”
In a landmark 11-year deal, Amazon Prime Video will exclusively stream 66 regular-season games, the Emirates NBA Cup, the SoFi Play-In Tournament, and select postseason games. Prime Video will also become the global home for WNBA streaming, with 30 regular-season games and postseason coverage.
With only one more season for Inside the NBA, Anthony and the show’s fans aren’t eager for it to end. If all goes well for TNT, though, a version of the beloved format will live on down then line.
