Without a doubt, former superstar Charles Barkley remains one of the most funniest personalities in the world of basketball. And while the future of Inside The NBA remains uncertain, the former All-Star forward’s sense of humor still remains intact.
As the league gears up for its upcoming media rights deals, Warner Bros., the parent company of TNT, faces the potential loss of the broadcast rights it has held since 1989. With TNT’s current deal set to expire after the next season, NBC has emerged as a strong contender, reportedly offering a staggering $2.5 billion. This bid puts NBC in a position to potentially outbid TNT and secure the broadcasting rights.

Insights from Bill Simmons of The Ringer suggest that NBC is well positioned to take over broadcasting duties from TNT once the new media rights agreement is finalized. However, if this transition occurs, it could mark the end of an era for the beloved show, including former center Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, Barkley, and Ernie Johnson. It is uncertain if the iconic quartet would remain together on another network starting from the 2025-26 season.
Should Warner Bros. and TNT lose the broadcasting rights, it seems unlikely that the hosts would continue as a unit elsewhere. Ultimately, the absence of the sport would result in the disappearance of a truly unique studio show, leaving fans with a void in the basketball broadcasting landscape.

It remains to be seen where Inside The NBA and its hosts will end up soon. In any case, a guy like Sir Charles won’t be out of a job for long if his show gets axed. For sure, the show’s crew will find some sort of employment related to basketball in the coming months.
