There is no assurance that Jonathan Kuminga will return to the Golden State Warriors after the 2025 NBA playoffs. Kuminga is in the final year of his four-year, $24 million contract and hasn’t been offered a contract extension by the Warriors. While he’s shown improvement this season, the recent addition of Jimmy Butler could rule out the possibility of him staying in Golden State.

Additionally, Kuminga hasn’t been involved with the team since the last games of the regular season. Even in the Play-In Tournament against the Memphis Grizzlies. Now, the Warriors have played the first game of their first-round series against the Houston Rockets. However, the 6-foot-8 forward logged another DNP.

With a series of DNPs in the past games, there is a question about his future in Golden State.

NBA News: An NBA Insider reveals an Eastern Conference team that is interested in potentially trading for the Golden State Warriors forward

There aren’t a lot of teams that could make a run for Kuminga this offseason. NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Tuesday that the Brooklyn Nets as the only team with available cap space to possibly pursue and sign him on a new deal.

“The Nets, at present, are projected to be the only team with $40 million in salary cap space this summer, theoretically positioning them to mount a firm Kuminga pursuit if they wish,” Stein wrote.

“That lack of abundant cap space has led various team strategists this week to suggest that a sign-and-trade could be the ultimate mechanism that delivers the former No. 7 pick out of the Bay Area come July.”

Through four seasons with the Warriors, Kuminga has averaged 12.5 points and four rebounds. In his first season with the team, he contributed to Golden State’s journey to win the 2022 NBA championship.

Golden State Warriors head coach gives hopeful message for Kuminga’s role in the rotation

As the underdog in their first-round series, the Golden State Warriors need all the help they can get from anyone on the roster. That includes Kuminga, who could provide enough help on both ends. However, he hasn’t been part of the rotation since the season ended, and head coach Steve Kerr is stern on not including him.

Ahead of Game 2, Kerr talked to the media on Tuesday and gave a positive statement for Kuminga.

“Jonathan has been fantastic,” Kerr said. “His attitude, his energy on the bench, cheering guys on, staying ready. This has been tough on him, but he’s doing exactly what he should be doing, which is staying ready. I’ve told him, and our coaches have told him things can change in a heartbeat in the NBA. He’s got to just be ready for when his time comes and that’s exactly what he’s doing. I would be surprised if at some point his time doesn’t come.”
