Nearly 30 years ago, Shawn Kemp and the Seattle Supersonics lost to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls in the 1996 NBA Finals. Jordan was the undisputed best player of the Bulls then and that view remains widely the same these days. However, Kemp recently said that it wasn’t His Airness who gave the SuperSonics the most trouble.
“Michael wasn’t the reason, he didn’t beat us,” Kemp said during a recent appearance on the All The Smoke podcast. “We was on his a**. Dennis Rodman was the one who beat us. We had no answer for Dennis Rodman. Every time that they needed a second shot or something special or an extra rebound, this m**********r was flying and winking and kissing.”
Kemp then said that Rodman went out of his way to distract Seattle, particularly SuperSoncis big man Frank Brickowski, who was supposed to challenge Rodman on the glass.
“He would be like he was trying to kiss Frank’s arm,” Kemp added. “Frank couldn’t take it. The man in him just couldn’t allow it. Dennis knew what buttons to push. We needed Frank to rebound.”
Dennis Rodman was a wild man 🤣
Shawn Kemp explains how he had Frank Brickowski "discombobulated" during the 1996 Finals.

Michael Jordan did not shoot efficiently in the 1996 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and Seattle SuperSoncis

In that series, Jordan led all players from both sides with an average of 27.3 points per game but he shot poorly from the field. Jordan made just 41.5 percent of his attempts from the floor. Rodman averaged only 7.5 points to go with 14.7 rebounds per game. His defense and rebounding, not to mention his strange ways on the court, clearly bothered Kemp and the SuperSonics, who ultimately lost the series in six games.
