There has been a lot of talk in the NBA lately about who is a “superstar. The NBA Finals highlight the ongoing debate about what defines a superstar in basketball, as illustrated by NBA legend Magic Johnson’s recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take.
Magic Johnson on the definition of an NBA superstar: “A person who can go on the road and sell the building out.”
The Attributes Superstars Should Possess
A superstar is defined as a player who consistently demonstrates an elite level of performance on the basketball court. If such a player can achieve this while also attracting significant audiences, they become one of the prominent figures representing the league.
Johnson spoke about an attraction. While many superstars are major box office draws, not every attraction qualifies as a superstar; examples include Blake Griffin, Hawks point guard Trae Young, and Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving.
A Superstar Can Be Defined in Different Ways
The definition of a superstar is distinct from other forms of appeal. In the past, this distinction wasn’t debated, but nowadays, the term is often used loosely for a variety of players.
