Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is one of the winningest head coaches of all time in the NBA. He also has won a ring in the league, having steered the Boston Celtics to a title in 2008.
However, all those successes are seemingly not enough for a lot of people to forget some of his playoff failures in the past, particularly a pair of blown 3-1 series leads with two different teams.
But Rivers also believes that he should be praised for not being swept in the playoffs and that his teams, the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Clippers, managed to win in those respective series.
Via Marc J. Speaks of Andscape:
“No one tells a real story. And I’m fine with that. It’s unfair in some ways. I don’t get enough credit for getting the three wins. I get credit for losing. I always say, ‘What if we had lost to Houston in six?’ No one cares. One of the things that I’m proud of is we’ve never been swept. All the coaches have been swept in the playoffs. My teams achieve. A lot of them overachieve and I’m very proud of that.”

Milwaukee Bucks HC Doc Rivers gets clowned over quote on 3-1 collapses

That quote has been reposted on X (formerly Twitter) by NBACentral, which, unsurprisingly, triggered lots of reactions from fans online. Here are just some of the comments to it from X users:
“Most overrated coach ever. He’s like the Paul George of coaches”
“He wants credit for getting 3 wins not four lmaooo”
“If you’re up 3-1 then you’re very well expected to advance. When you don’t advance mainly due to bad coaching, then expect to be clowned. Especially, when this pattern keeps repeating Glenn!!!”
“You’re legit on national television making zero adjustments and that’s why you’re getting clowned”
“Doc Rivers is the most overrated coach of all time”
Rivers can still silence his critics and have the last laugh this season if the Bucks win a ring in June. It is going to be easier said than done, but Milwaukee is in a good position to make the NBA Playoffs and has the talent to be a threat to any team in the postseason.
