ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed on Monday that Trey Murphy III, a small forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, sustained a ruptured labrum in his right shoulder that will terminate his season. This came right after they lost 127-81 to the Detroit Pistons in their game. Murphy’s injured shoulder forced him to depart the game against the Pistons.
The 6-foot-8 forward sustained the injury early in the game after he tried to go after a loose ball. Murphy had a terrible fall and it led to him hurting his shoulder. After further examination, the Pelicans have ruled him out of the season. Watch the video below to see the moment when the forward had the injury.

Before he was injured, Murphy had a 20-point game in a 119-115 loss against the San Antonio Spurs. The forward shot 4-for-11 from beyond the arc and also collected six rebounds and three assists.
Murphy is in the middle of a career season with the Pelicans. He’s appeared in 52 games, averaging 21.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
NBA News: Murphy is another addition to the New Orleans Pelicans’ injuries

Aside from Murphy’s injury, the New Orleans Pelicans have filled their injury report with the names of some of the most important players on the team. Ahead of their game against the Pistons, the team listed Brandon Boston (left ankle stress reaction), Herb Jones (right shoulder torn rotator cuff) and Dejounte Murray (right Achilles rupture) as out.
Fortunately for the Pelicans, All-Star Zion Williamson played for the team and tried to give the Pelicans a fighting chance. Williamson had 30 points and six rebounds.
Fans react to Murphy’s season-ending injury

Losing Murphy is one of the biggest losses for the Pelicans this season. Aside from his offensive breakout year, New Orleans has benefitted from how he plays on both ends. This is why fans were devastated by his injury.
“damn Pels in the mud with injuries, Zion need to come to LA,” a fan said.
“Damn. Pelicans can’t catch a break,” another fan said.
“are you f***ing kidding me man,” one fan commented.
