There’s a chance for the New York Knicks to add another star player to play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson. According to Knicks insider Stefan Bondy, Kevin Durant could be one of the players on their list this summer. However, Bondy pointed out that the performance of New York in the postseason will play a significant part in the franchise’s future.
Durant could be available once the season is over. With the disappointing 2024-25 NBA season for the Phoenix Suns, many believe the 2014 MVP could ask to be traded. The Suns are set to miss the postseason for the first time in 2019 as they are 11th in the Western Conference with a 35-45.

Bondy, who appeared as a guest on Thursday’s episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” explained that the outcome of this year’s playoffs will be prime for the Knicks. It could keep its core or allow it to land an aging superstar.
NBA News: Mikal Bridges could be the player the New York Knicks trade for Durant if needed
Bondy explained that the contract situation of Mikal Bridges could be a factor. After this season, Bridges has $24.9 million left in his four-year, $90.9 million deal.
“It all depends on what happens in the playoffs,” Bondy said. “Mikal Bridges, they traded five first round picks to get him. If, for whatever reason, they bomb in the playoffs and Bridges is up for a contract extension after this season and they decide that’s not the direction they want to go, then I could see a movement towards a player like Kevin Durant.
“A lot of it will depend on the playoffs but Kevin Durant is out there.”
Kevin Durant and Mikal Bridges have swapped teams before. If the Knicks underperform in the playoffs, it could happen again this summer 👀

The two-way forward is set to be a free agent after he declined a two-year, $60 million contract extension from the Knicks. However, he could still be part of a potential KD trade if New York chooses that route.
All-Star reflects on the New York Knicks’ loss against the Pistons

On Thursday, the New York Knicks couldn’t get a win against the Detroit Pistons and suffered a 115-106 loss. One factor for the Pistons’ win was how physical they were, forcing the Knicks to make tough shots. Following the game, All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns talked about the physicality the team imposed that gave them the victory.
That’s Detroit basketball. They play physical…They upped their physicality in the 2nd half, we just didn’t do enough to win the game including myself. Take responsibility & move on to the next one,” KAT said.

Towns led the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 52.6 percent from the floor. New York has two games left in the season and will try to win both games to start the playoffs on a high note.
