Just recently, France overcame Brazil in their opening match of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After the contest, NBA superstar and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama revealed how their comeback win against their opponent came to reality.
The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off with an electrifying basketball match between France and Brazil. In a thrilling showdown, France emerged victorious with a 78-66 win, fending off Brazil’s persistent efforts. The French phenom Victor Wembanyama showcased his prowess by scoring 19 points, including some spectacular dunks that energized the crowd.

Despite Brazil taking an early lead and maintaining it through the first half, France staged a comeback in the second quarter. Evan Fournier’s crucial 3-pointer just before halftime shifted the momentum in France’s favor, giving them a narrow lead.
As the game progressed, France capitalized on the support of the home crowd, steadily extending their lead. With Brazil making spirited attempts to close the gap in the final minutes, Nicolas Batum’s clutch 3-pointers and a decisive dunk by Wembanyama secured France’s victory.
Both teams grappled with turnovers, but France’s resilience and skill propelled them to a well-deserved win, setting the stage for an exciting Olympic basketball tournament. France’s next challenge awaits against Japan, while Brazil gears up to face Germany in the upcoming games.
Victor Wembanyama Reveals Truth on France’s Comeback Win Against Brazil in Olympics

After the game, Wembanyama was asked about France’s game against Brazil, including having the advantage of homecourt in the Olympics. In an article published by Basketnews, the Spurs star also revealed how they came back against Brazil to win the game.
“I would say it is a good start. I would say we did all the job we could do tonight, but there’s still so much to do,” Wembanyama continued. “[We should be] capitalizing more on our momentum, having less ups and downs, especially downs, and overall being a more wise team.”
“We pressed the button. We just adjusted. I think their gameplan was to be the first to punch. They did well but I think we responded better,” he said about a turnaround in the second quarter after losing the first by eight.
Last season, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, 3.6 blocks in the NBA. He is projected to bring his elite talent on both ends of the court to help France go far in the Olympics this year.

It remains to be seen how Wemby and France will perform against more formidable opponents, like LeBron James’ Team USA and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Canadian squad. In any case, their showing against Brazil just showed the world what they’re really capable of.
