Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young has expressed his strong desire to represent Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The talented NBA guard acknowledged that earning a spot on the team will not be easy, given the wealth of talent available, but he emphasized his eagerness to prove his worth to the coaching staff.
Young’s aspiration to don the red, white, and blue jersey comes as no surprise, given his impressive resume in the NBA. The three-time All-Star guard has consistently averaged over 25 points per game for the past five seasons, showcasing his exceptional scoring ability, playmaking skills, and three-point shooting.
The 2028 Olympics could present a unique opportunity for Young to cement his legacy and establish himself as one of the premier players in the game. With several established stars potentially retiring or stepping back from international play by that time, the door may open for a new generation of talents, including Young, to make their mark on the national team.
The guard’s desire to represent his country at the 2028 Olympics is a testament to his competitive spirit and ambition to leave a lasting legacy in the game. As he looks to the future, the chance to compete for gold on the world’s biggest stage will undoubtedly be a driving force behind Young’s continued development and success.
NBA All-Star Trae Young Gets Real on Fulfilling 2028 Olympic Dream With Team USA
Although he missed out on winning the gold with Team USA this summer, Young has remained hopeful about playing in Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics. In an episode of Podcast P with Paul George, presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, the Hawks star got real about the possibility of joining.
“I mean I got a house here, of course. Cali Olympics in 2028, of course. I mean of course nothing is given. Everything is earned. So we got a couple years that it’s just going to have to be earned and obviously USA has a lot of talent. We have a lot of players that could be a part of it, but of course, of course I want to, but we’ll see. I definitely will. It ain’t up to me, but if it was, I would definitely want to,” Young said.
Young played college basketball for the Oklahoma Sooners, where he led the NCAA in both points and assists in 2018. Young was drafted then fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 2018 and traded to the Hawks. He has been a three-time NBA All-Star and has led the Hawks to the playoffs, including an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2021.
It remains to be seen whether Young makes Team USA for the 2028 Olympics or not. In any case, the Hawks star still has a lot of time to prove his worth for the national squad.
