NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain‘s historic 100-point game has never been beaten, even by the likes of Chicago Bulls’ Michael Jordan, Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, or the league’s all-time leading scorer LeBron James. But for competitive eater Joey Chestnut, though, the record has been surpassed in an entirely different manner.
Back in 1962, Chamberlain set an unparalleled record by scoring 100 points in a single NBA game against the New York Knicks for the Philadelphia Warriors back then. This feat is widely regarded as one of the greatest individual performances in sports history.
Chamberlain was already a basketball phenom, having averaged over 37 points per game in each of his first two NBA seasons. On March 2, 1962, he took his game to unprecedented heights, pouring in 100 points to lead the Warriors to a 169-147 victory over the Knicks.
The game was played at the Hershey Sports Arena in Pennsylvania and was not televised, with only audio recordings of the final quarter remaining. Chamberlain set multiple records that night, including most points scored, most free throws made, and most combined points in a game. His scoring outburst was a testament to his size, strength, and unparalleled skill, as he dominated both ends of the court.
Chamberlain’s 100-point game remains one of the most iconic and unbreakable records in NBA history, a testament to his singular talent and the enduring legacy of one of basketball’s all-time greats.
Competitive Eater Joey Chestnut Drops Wilt Chamberlain-NBA Like Celebration After Eating a Crazy Amount of Chicken Wings
After Chamberlain’s historic game, the NBA icon posed with a piece of paper indicating the number of points he scored that night. As it stands, Chestnut used the same idea to celebrate the number of chicken wings he ate, as seen in an image he shared on his official X account.
Mission accomplished. 200 wings in under 38 minutes @bwwings all you can eat boneless pic.twitter.com/ZIHcxApXMo
— Joey Chestnut (@joeyjaws) July 8, 2024
Chestnut took on a challenge from Buffalo Wild Wings to consume 200 boneless wings in under 38 minutes. In response, the restaurant extended its all-you-can-eat boneless wing promotion until August 14, allowing customers to take advantage of Chestnut’s feat for 12 more occasions. This showcases Chestnut’s unparalleled eating prowess, which has made him a fixture in the competitive eating scene.
Even though it has been decades since he passed away, Chamberlain’s influence can still be felt to this day. With Chestnut’s recent celebration, it’s safe to say the NBA legend’s iconic celebration won’t be forgotten soon.
