Former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski seems to have squashed his “beef” with Shams Charania after the latter recently announced he’s taking his talents to ESPN.
Speaking on The Jim Rome Show on Monday, the current general manager of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program wished his former protege luck upon replacing him at the “Worldwide Leader in Sports.”
“Shams texted me after I announced my retirement. And you know what? I told him is what I would say today that I hope he has as fulfilling and as rewarding of a career as I’ve had. And I certainly wish that for him. And he’s right about the incredible group of colleagues that he’s going to find at ESPN, the best of the best, incredible reporters on-air talent,” Woj shared.
“And so, you know, for me, that was always the best part of working at ESPN. Where the colleagues who elevate you, you’re around the best of the best. And that was true in the NBA. And then that was true being around Schefter passing and those guys. So, I wish him the best. And he’s got a great team around him at ESPN,” he continued.
Woj and Shams are two of the best NBA insiders we have
Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania’s relationship dates back to when the latter was still in college. Woj took Shams under his wing when he was working at Yahoo Sports.
When Woj left for ESPN in 2017, Shams could’ve joined his mentor but decided to go on his own and join The Athletic.
Woj and Shams had been rivals ever since, as both renowned sports reporters would always break the hottest NBA news almost at the same time, from trades, free agency signings, coaching moves, retirements, and even notable deaths.
When Woj left sports journalism to join his alma mater as their general manager, it left a huge void at ESPN, so Shams’ arrival couldn’t have come at a better time.
