The NBA’s commitment to keeping sportsmanship on the court was fully shown following a physical incident between Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro during the Miami Heat’s 104-100 victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday. The league has suspended key players involved in the scuffle, showing the importance of player conduct and officiating respect.
Amen Thompson And Tyler Herro Scuffle
With only 35.7 seconds left in the game, tensions rose when Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro leaned into Houston Rockets forward Thompson during a deadball moment. Suddenly, Amen retaliated by grabbing Herro’s jersey and violently throwing him to the floor. This aggressive act triggered further involvement from both teams, with Jalen Green and Heat guard Terry Rozier joining in on the action. All four players were ejected from the game shortly after.
Earlier in the game, with 47.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Rockets guard Fred VanVleet created controversy by making risky contact with a game official. This action led to a $35,000 fine.
NBA’s Disciplinary Actions
The NBA announced the following penalties after the recent incident:
- Thompson from the Houston Rockets is suspended for two games without pay.
- Terry Rozier from the Miami Heat is suspended for one game without pay.
- Jalen Green from the Houston Rockets is fined $35,000.
- Tyler Herro from the Miami Heat is fined $25,000.
Additionally, Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka is fined $50,000 for yelling at a game official and for not leaving the court quickly after his ejection.
Impact of Suspensions
Thompson will miss two important home games for the Rockets. He will not play against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday and the Boston Celtics on Friday. Terry Rozier will also sit out the Heat’s home game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
The NBA is taking quick action to highlight the need for professionalism in the game. The league wants to make sure that basketball remains competitive and respectful, protecting both the sport and its players. With recent altercations getting more and more physical, the league is hoping these fines make the players think twice before taking matters into their own hands on the court.
