While neither the LA Lakers nor Ingram had expressed interest in a trade deal, Ingram was previously reported to have the desire to be part of a “winning competitive environment.” The Pelicans currently have a rough season, plagued with injury issues among other things, as they sit at the bottom of the Western Conference at 4-18 standing.

Another factor that constantly fuels reports of a potential Brandon Ingram trade is the fact that Ingram’s contract with the Pelicans is about to expire this year, and he is set to go into free-agent status An extension agreement, however, is allegedly not reached and discussions are at a “stalemate.”
Brandon Ingram started his NBA career as the second overall pick by the LA Lakers during the 2016 draft. He was eventually traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in a deal that gave Anthony Davis to the Lakers.

Earlier this year, LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick expressed the team’s desire to add a “big, bruising” center to their roster, mainly to complement Anthony Davis in terms of defense.
“You certainly have to look at what I think is actually a very good roster, a very balanced roster,” Redick said. “We’d love to, we tried, but we’d love to, at some point, get another five-man, a big bruising five-man.”
“I want that challenge. I’m not going to run from that challenge”

Going forward, NBA insider Michael Scotto suggested that with Gabe Vincent’s lackluster performance inside the Lakers, the LA team might be willing to let him go, in an attempt to trade for Washington Wizards center Jonas Valančiūnas.
The LA Lakers reportedly are looking to use Gabe Vincent’s value as a salary filler in a potential trade deal, as well as second-round picks for future drafts.
