Phoenix Suns shooting guard Grayson Allen may be let go for a trade deal, at least if trade reports in the rumor mill are to be believed. This is reportedly part of the Suns building a roster that can bring them to the championship for the next season.
In April this year, Grayson Allen signed a contract extension for four years with $70 million. Still, with how he has been underutilized by the Suns at this point in the season, the idea of him being traded off makes a lot of sense for fans and analysts alike.
In a post on X, NBA insider Evan Sidery suggested that the Suns may opt to trade off Allen in exchange for the opportunity to build a roster that would be championship-level.
“After signing a four-year, $70 million extension, Grayson Allen is a potential trade candidate to monitor for the Suns,” Sidery said. “Allen’s $15.6 million salary could be utilized to help Phoenix attain a championship-level upgrade.”
Grayson Allen has been benched more this season. During the 2023-2024 season, Allen started on 74 out of 75 games he played in. So far this season, Allen has played 15 games but started only in one. His time inside the court also saw a downtrend as he used to average 33.5 minutes per game, but has only so far averaged 23.1 minutes this season.
Grayson Allen “More Comfortable” as a Starter For The Suns
After not starting any game for a long stretch, Grayson Allen started the Suns’ game against the Golden State Warriors, as he replaced the injured Bradley Beal in the lineup.
The Suns won the game over the Warriors, with a final score of 113-105.
Suns power forward Kevin Durant commented on Allen’s performance during the game. Allen did 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Per KD, Grayson Allen appeared to be more “comfortable” being part of the starter lineup.
“You’re seeing tonight – Seventeen points, three assists, four rebounds, going downhill, making plays, making big shots. I think he (Grayson Allen) was more comfortable knowing he’s going to play big minutes tonight,” Durant said during a post-game interview. “He’s adapted to his role and understands what we need from him and he’s just been a versatile player for us. So we’re gonna need more from him.”
So far this season, Grayson Allen’s last five games had a record of 2-3. He had an average so far of 10.7 points per game and has shot 39.4% from the field, and 35.4% from beyond the arc.
