With one All-Star coming in in the form of Dejounte Murray, it appears that the New Orleans Pelicans are now preparing to bid farewell to another one. This is after reports have emerged regarding “intensified” trade talks involving Brandon Ingram, who at this point, may have already played his last game for the Pels.
New Orleans Pelicans News: Brandon Ingram Trade Talks Heating Up
It appears that Ingram is no longer part of the Pelicans’ new era. Despite averaging 20.8 points on a highly efficient 49.2 percent shooting clip, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 64 games played last season, it now seems that time has run out for Ingram in New Orleans.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, contract negotiations between Ingram and the Pelicans have fallen apart, which has led to New Orleans shopping the former All-Star in the market (h/t NBACentral on X, formerly Twitter):
“Attempts in New Orleans to trade Brandon Ingram have intensified in recent days, league sources say. Sources tell The Stein Line that on Ingram’s side, with the reality that the contract extension terms his camp had hoped for are not forthcoming from the Pelicans, there has likewise been exploration of trade options.”
Stein did not indicate which team/s are involved in trade negotiations with the Pelicans, but Ingram is not expected to have a shortage of suitors in the trade market.
It is worth noting, though, that the 6-foot-8 forward has just one year remaining in his current deal, which will see him pocket a whopping $36 million in 2024-25. The uncertainty surrounding his future combined with the substantial salary cap hit his contract entails could be significant stumbling blocks for any team out there that has shown interest in the 26-year-old.
