New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson recently went viral for photos of him looking remarkably slimmer than before, drawing reactions from the basketball community.
Carmelo Anthony was one of the notable NBA personalities who noticed Zion Williamson’s newfound body. During a recent episode of 7PM in Brooklyn with Kid Mero, the 10-time NBA All-Star lauded Williamson for cutting down on weight but added that he needs to be consistent with it to help his career in the long run.
“He looked like he was in the best shape of his life,” Anthony said in his podcast. “But it’s like, it’s not getting in shape, it’s remaining in shape. It’s remaining fit. Now you’re going to get there but are you going to keep that going? Are you going to do what you got to do to keep that, you know, being locked in? How are you going to do that? It’s a long season, and you really got to put the work in to remain that way. There are no days off.”
Williamson has been criticized for his weight since it has played a role in his struggles to stay fit throughout a whole NBA season, as he has never played more than 70 regular season games in a single campaign so far in his five-year career.
A fully fit Zion Williamson is the key to the New Orleans Pelicans’ fortunes
Believe it or not, Zion Williamson is coming off the healthiest season of his career, as he played 70 regular season games averaging 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 57 percent shooting from the field.
However, he was unavailable when the New Orleans Pelicans needed him the most, as Williamson didn’t play a single game during their first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in which they were swept.
Many argue that if Zion Williamson is 100 percent fit by then, the New Orleans Pelicans would’ve been more competitive against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
