New Orleans Pelicans might not have much to say about Tony Snell if you ask them about his stint in the Big Easy. In fact, most of the fans of the teams he played for might have the same sentiments when it came to his play.
While not much was expected out of the New Mexico product when he entered the league in 2013, many thought he’d be a solid role player for a contender. However, he failed to make a serious impact on any of the rosters he’s been on, never cracking the double-digit barrier.
It’s been a full two seasons since Snell last saw NBA action. It would be reasonable to think that his days as an NBA player are long behind him.
However, the guard is trying to make one more comeback in the league, and his reasons for his desire to return to the NBA is more than just a want to play high-level basketball.
Tony Snell wants to return to New Orleans Pelicans, NBA to secure his family’s future
According to a report by the Albuquerque Journal, Snell expressed his desire to return to the league to ensure his family lives comfortable lives.
Tony Snell is still looking to return to the NBA
“I didn’t make it this far to make it (just) this far. I’m really trying to get that 10th year to take care of my family for life.”

While the reason is commendable, his performance in the league won’t do him any favors. In what turned out to be his final year in the league, he averaged 3.5 PPG, 1.9 RPG, and 0.5 APG in his stints with the Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans.
His G League numbers aren’t helping his case either. His second season with the Maine Celtics saw him net 10.8 PPG for the first time in his career, but such numbers in the G League won’t secure him a contract in the NBA.
It remains to be seen if he’ll actually get a shot back in the bright lights of the NBA. But with how things are looking for him, Snell might have to look abroad to get that bag.
