The 2024-25 NBA regular season has been far from ideal for the New Orleans Pelicans. Injuries are a big reason why the Pels are on pace to miss the NBA Playoffs, as they hold a 17-46 record — second-worst in the Western Conference standings.
However, that’s not stopping Trey Murphy III from turning heads with his play. He is in the middle of his best season yet in the NBA. So far in the campaign, Murphy is averaging 21.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the floor and posting a 55.0 effective field goal percentage.
New Orleans Pelicans’ Trey Murphy speaks up about Zion Williamson

Murphy has been clicking nicely while playing alongside star forward Zion Williamson, whose way of carrying himself on and off the court since his suspension in January due to tardiness has been noticed by the former Viriginia Cavaliers star.
“He’s been really good. He’s been really good. I’ve seen a big step from him, maturity-wise. It’s been great to see,” Murphy told Mark Medina of Sportskeeda.
“Overall, the biggest thing is that he’s been leading by example. He’s been stepping up defensively and talking. He’s sharing the ball offensively. He’s been a complete player.”
Williamson remains a franchise cornerstone for the Pelicans. At just 24 years old, Williamson is still very much capable of fulfilling the extreme potential he has, provided that he’s healthy and focused on the mission. So far this season, the former top-pick overall is putting up 24.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor.
