The New Orleans Pelicans have one of the worst records in the NBA at 4-13, and their poor run of results can be attributed to injuries as most of their key players have missed significant time.
One of them is Zion Williamson, who has only played six games so far. The 24-year-old forward has missed the last seven games due to a left hamstring injury, and the New Orleans Pelicans are bracing for Williamson to be out for longer than expected if ESPN’s Shams Charania is to be believed.
“I’m told Zion Williamson is not close to a return. He’s still a ways away. Sources tell me he has received multiple treatments on that hamstring strain. That’s become a chronic issue for him over the last few years,” Charania detailed on NBA Countdown.
“It’s typically a four-to-six week injury with the grade level from what I’m told, but the Pelicans are bracing for him it could go longer than that mark. … They are still going to be without Zion Williamson for a considerable amount of time,” he concluded.
New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson dishes on his injury status
Zion Williamson couldn’t help but feel sad about the New Orleans Pelicans’ situation since this was not what he envisioned before the start of the campaign. However, he said the team is determined to “figure it out.”
Furthermore, the two-time NBA All-Star downplayed the severity of his hamstring injury but acknowledged he needs to follow certain protocols before returning to the court.
“If you are asking me, (I can do) a lot,” Williamson said via Christian Clark of NOLA.com. “But I’ve got to follow guidelines and protocols. Staying in good spirits, rehab is going great. I’m on track and that’s all I can do right now… Working on mobility to strengthen different areas.”
