The New York Knicks may have crashed and burned out of the most recent playoffs, but the hype surrounding the team remains at an all-time high.
One of the reasons for the excitement surrounding the squad is Mikal Bridges’ arrival from the Brooklyn Nets. While he’s proven to be a terrific player for the Nets, he’s not a part of the team’s rebuilding timeline.
Bridges’ arrival formalizes the creation of the Villanova Knicks, and fans hope that their core of players who enjoy being around each other will result in an incredible championship in the future.
While fans are curious to see how this iteration of the Knicks will play out, Jalen Brunson is still at the center of everything for the team. The one-time All-Star has blossomed into a terrific player ever since arriving from the Dallas Mavericks,
He’s become such a key part of his team’s successes that an NBA legend came forward to sing him praises.
Charles Barkley raves about Jalen Brunson’s impact on the New York Knicks
Charles Barkley isn’t the kind of person to hold back on his opinions on NBA players. He doesn’t care if the person is a star or a fringe player on a roster; if he feels strongly about your game, you will likely hear from him.
In Jalen Brunson’s case, Sir Charles has nothing but love on what he’s shown so far.
Per Empire Sports Media’s Matthew Legros:
“First of all, he’s a great kid and a hell of a player. What he did for the Knicks, I think, has shocked everybody. I mean, I knew he was a good player but he’s been great since he got to New York,” Barkley said.
“I think he realized, hey for me to make a few extra million dollars and we’re not going to be competitive, nobody wants to do that,” Barkley continued. “I’m happy for that kid, he’s a great kid, kudos to him.”
Brunson’s performance last season shows how much he deserves the accolades he’s getting. He finished his most recent campaign with 28.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 6.7 APG on 47.9% FG and 40.1% 3FG. If he continues putting up such numbers next season, it’s not hard to see them make another deep playoff run next year.
