Jalen Brunson was one of the league’s feel-good stories last season, carrying the New York Knicks to a deep playoff run, and he has further ingratiated himself with the New York fanbase after taking a massive pay cut to stay in the long run.
Brunson recently agreed to a four-year, $156.5 million to keep himself in New York. The one-time NBA All-Star left over $100 million on the table because he would’ve been eligible to receive roughly $269 million if he waited until next year.
And after trading for Mikal Bridges and re-signing OG Anunoby to a new lucrative contract, the New York Knicks are in a great position to contend in the Eastern Conference, with Jalen Brunson as the head of the snake.
Jalen Brunson made a name for himself during the 2023-24 season, averaging 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists on 48/40/85 shooting splits in 77 regular season games. He upped his production during the postseason, averaging 32.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game on 44.4 percent shooting from the field.
Jake Fischer calls New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson the best playoff scorer ‘in years’
Yahoo Sports NBA reporter Jake Fischer recently said that Jalen Brunson is the NBA’s best one-on-one scorer right now, despite only standing at 6’2″ and 190 pounds.
“Jalen Brunson is the best playoff scorer that I’ve seen in person in a long time. I literally left that gym one day and I was telling people ‘I think he might be the best 1-on-1 scorer in the NBA,'” Fischer said via Rasheed Wallace’s X (formerly known as Twitter).
Brunson does his most damage by attacking the basket using his shiftiness and elite footwork. And if you give him space, Brunson can also knock it down from deep, as he is a career 39.1 percent three-point shooter.
